Each module centres on the close reading of one academically significant text, chosen for the student's grade and reading level. Skills spiral across modules, increasing in depth and rigor — twelve modules across years 1–3 of high school.

A representative first year. Text selections and focus areas are adjusted to the student's developing strengths, interests, and previously completed readings.
The 19th-Century English Novel
Foundational close reading, character analysis, narrative style, and dense syntax. Stamina and vocabulary.
American Modernism
Symbolic reading, theme, social commentary, and author's purpose. Evidence-based reading in the SAT style.
Dystopian & Speculative Fiction
Argumentation, rhetoric, political commentary, and ethical reasoning. Inferential questions.
Shakespeare I: Drama
Figurative language, advanced vocabulary, rhetorical structures, and performance analysis. Comprehension of complex syntax.
Reading Scientific Works
Structural literacy, reading for argument, data integration, and vocabulary in context — across theory, methods, data, and results.
Poetry, historical documents, Shakespeare II, the contemporary essay, and further novels — sequenced through years 2 and 3 toward AP English and the personal essay.

Twelve weeks, eighteen hours of one-to-one instruction, one text read in full. Modules are taken one at a time — typically four per school year.
Books are not included and may be read in print or digitally.

We don't believe students should spend years studying for the SAT. These modules, alongside the Academic Writing Course, build the reading, reasoning, vocabulary, and grammar the test requires — so that dedicated SAT preparation in years 2–3 can focus purely on question types, strategy, and pacing.
